Ultrafiltration
The separation of macrosolutes based on their molecular weight or size.
Ultrafiltration is a pressure-driven, convective process using semi-permeable membranes to separate macrosolutes based on their molecular weight or size. By removing solvent from solution, solute is concentrated or enriched. UF membranes may also be used for diafiltration to remove salts or other microspecies from solution via repeated or continuous dilution and reconcentration.
GE Healthcare hollow fiber UF membranes are anisotropic structures consisting of a thin, dense "skin" supported by a microporous sub-structure, and characterized using a series of known "marker" solutes.
