CyDye Fluors: Versatile dyes - Do more

CyDye™ Fluors - offering bright and intense colors with narrow and spectrally distinct emission bands. CyDye Fluors are outstanding for multicolor detection in a range of applications.

CyDyeTM is our brand name for a range of fluorescence dyes, so called as they evolved from a dye class called the cyanines. Fluorescence can be simply defined as the molecular absorption of light energy (photons) at one wavelength and its re-emission at another, usually longer, wavelength.

Molecules that can absorb light are known as "chromophores", those that both absorb and emit light are known as "fluorochromes" or "fluorophores".

CyDye fluorophores are one of the most popular choices for fluorescent labeling in a variety of applications. Used across fields as diverse as sequencing, microarrays, flow cytometry & proteomics, this extremely versatile range of dyes is now available for HTS. Eminently suitable for the demanding role of non-isotopic labeling in drug screening.

As highly sensitive molecular labeling tools, CyDye Fluors are designed to emit within the most responsive region of the LEADseekerTM detection system. Their bright and intense colours with narrow emission peaks also make them ideal for multiple colour detection in microarray and other fluorescence based genome analysis techniques. Different cell types and their expressed proteins can be also distinguished, plus also the simultaneous analysis of, for example, diseased and control states of a cell can be measured.

They are also;

  • highly intense for superior sensitivity
  • pH insensitive
  • exhibit low non-specific binding
  • photostable
  • water-soluble.

GE Healthcare offers a screening range for FRET labeling, containing Cy3B, a bright version of Cy3, Cy5Q and Cy7Q, both 'dark' or quencher dyes.

Not sure which chemistry to use?

Then choose one of the Select-A-Dye kits. Each kit provides either Cy3 or Cy5, in all 3 chemistries.

Performance Benefits

  • Bright - very high extinction coefficients and favourable quantum yields, means sensitive detection limits
  • Low non-specific binding properties

Robust

  • pH insensitive between 3-10 – all CyDye fluors can be used at biologically relevant pH
  • DMSO tolerance – samples can be transferred from storage to assay, without loss of performance
  • Good aqueous solubility – can be run in biologically relevant assays, no need for organic solvents.
  • Superior photostability – e.g. compared to fluorescein, so allows more time for image detection.
  • Purity – QC tested to ensure high levels of chromophore and reactive dye content

Versatile

  • For use in steady state fluorescence, FP and FRET applications
  • Flexible – available in 3 labeling chemistries
  • mono NHS ester – for labeling via amine groups
  • mono maleimide – for labeling via thiol groups
  • mono hydrazide – for labeling via aldehyde groups
