Generic virus purification process

A "typical process" has no particular reference but the set and choice of steps has become a generic approach by those that develop virus purification processes. A generic process offers the advantage that it will with high probability give a desired result. In this case depending on virus alternative products can be use in the second step e.g. Sepharose™ 4 Fast Flow or Sephacryl™ S-400 HR. Note that in many cases the separation can be run as in group separation mode i.e. more than 30% of the column can be leaded per run.

RNA, proteins and other lower molecular species are effectively removed. A final e.g. ion exchange step can be used to remove residual DNA. See e.g. van Wezel et al in DEVELOPMENTS IN BIOLOGICAL STANDARDIZATION (1979), 42, 65-69, Belew et al in Bioseparation (1991) 1: 397-408 or Lemmens et al Journal of Chromatography in press.
